In Photoklecksography, Dylan Culhane continues in this tradition with mirrored photographic images that reveal the visages of magical, terrifying, amusing, demonic and angelic creatures. A passing glance at these intricate and surreal pictures might reveal a face; a form. On closer inspection one invariably discerns dozens of insects, robots, aliens, spacemen, clowns, daemons, misanthropes and even sad little panda bears. The prevailing mood of the images is playful, with a pinch of pure evil thrown in for good measure.
As the show's sub-title implies, these faces emerge by chance as the artist experiments with the symmetrical arrangement of abstract images. In a sense, the works become portraits of the countless doppelgangers that emerge from the depths of our collective unconscious. Where they come from and what they want is anyone's guess...
Transcending conventional notions of photography, this exhibition of enchanting photographic illustrations promises to reward your ability to see.
